AIMBCF demands 8.5 per cent reservation for Muslim OBCs
Lucknow, Apr 19 (UNI) The All India Muslim Backward Classes Federation (AIMBCF) today demanded reservation of 8.5 per cent within the OBC quota of 27 per cent for backwards in the minority community in Uttar Pradesh.
Federation President Mohammad Ibrahim Qureshi told reporters here that he would personally meet Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav to apprise him about the immediate need of reservation for backward Muslims.
''There is immediate need for amendment in the Constitution to provide 8.5 per cent reservation to OBC Muslims as recommended by the Mandal Commission in 1980,'' he added.
Mr Quereshi, also vice-president of All India Muslim Educational Society, said that efforts should be made to aware the people of the community to educate their children.
He said the society will open its office in UP by next month and cordinate with the state government to implement various programmes to uplift the literacy rate of Muslims in the state.
