AIFB candidate attempts suicide

Madurai, Apr 19 (UNI) An All India Forward Bloc (AIFB) candidate, who attempted to commit suicide today, was admitted to the Government Hospital here in serious condition.

Police said Suresh (27), residing at Venkatasamudram near Tirumangalam, had been nominated by the party to contest Tirumangalam seat.

The candidate, who was supposed to have filed his papers today, was found hanging by his family members this morning. He was immediately rushed to the Tirumangalam Government Hospital.

As his condition was stated to be serious, he was later referred to the Government Hospital here.

His partymen claimed Suresh was threatened by political rivals, driving him to resort to the extreme step.

It may be recalled Forward Bloc State President and Actor M Karthik recently alleged his party functionaries and cadre were being threatened by political opponents following its decision to go it alone in the May eight Assembly elections.
