123 proposals worth over 1.74 lakh cr recommended
New Delhi, Apr 19 (UNI) The government appraised 123 proposals and recommended investment of Rs 1,74,436 crore during fiscal 2005-06, an official release said toady.
The proposals were apprised by the Public Investment Board (PIB), the Expenditure Finance Committee (EFC) and the Committee on Non-Plan Expenditure (CNE).
The total investment recommended during 2004-05 was Rs 1,18,112 crore.
During 2005-06, eight Hydro projects worth Rs 16,423.81 crore were recommended, which will produce 3,740 MW of power, while eleven Transmission projects worth Rs 14,750.44 crore were c;eared.
In the civil aviation sector, four proposals with investment worth Rs 38,590.57 crore were recommended. These were the acquisition of 18 B737-800 W Aircraft by Air India Charters Ltd. at a cost of Rs 4,951.60 crore, acquisition of 50 New Long Range Aircraft by Air India at a cost of Rs 33,197.47 crore, construction of new International terminals at Ahmedabad and Trivandrum airports at a cost of Rs 195.92 crore and Rs 245.58 crore, respectively.
In port and shipping sector, four projects with investment worth Rs 3,913.99 crore were cleared. These were Sethusamudram Ship Channel Project with an investment of Rs 2,427.40 crore, acquisition of two very large crude carriers (Rs 924 crore) and two capesize bulk carriers (Rs414 crore) each by Shipping Corporation of India Limited, deepening of entrance channel at Paradeep Port (Rs 148.59 crore) Among other recommendations were -- Two projects with investment worth Rs 1,285.04 crore in the transport sector.
-- 14 coal sector expansion projects with investment worth Rs 10,076.8 crore to enhance coal production capacity by 92.5 Mty.
-- Bangalore Metro Rail project with an investment of Rs 4,685 crore.
-- Four proposals with investment worth Rs 1,255.02 crore in the textile sector -- Expansion of RINL, Vishakapatnam Steel Plant capacity from 3 million MT to 6.3 million MT at a cost of Rs 8,259 crore.
-- Intensified Malaria Control Project (Rs 317.64 crore).
-- National Vector Borne Diseases Control Programme (Rs 1,370.00 crore).
-- Antiretroviral treatment of HIV/AIDS infected persons (Rs 564.28 crore.
-- Phase-II Project of World Bank assisted Revised National TB Control Programme (Rs 1,128 crore).
-- Polio Eradication Strategy for 2006-07 and provision for rehabilitation of Polio affected children (Rs 1,039 crore).
