RPF gears up to tackle naxal menace
Vijayawada, Apr 18 (UNI) The Railway Protection Force (RPF) is on the alert to foil any attack by naxals in view of spurt in insurgency-related violence, a senior official has said.
Speaking at 'Suraksha Sammelan' here last evening, RPF Senior Divisional Security Commissioner S Mayank said based on a study of the naxal attack on Annavaram Police Station last year, the RPF had initiated several measures to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.
Coordination meetings with General Railway Police (GRP), identification of naxal-infested areas between Samalkot and Anakapalli and curbs on carrying explosives in trains were some of the measures taken by the RPF to deal with the insurgents.
Sniffer dogs and caller ids for all telephones at railway stations are some of the other security measures being taken up to tackle the naxal menace and hoax calls, he said.
