PM honours women achievers from Maharashtra, Haryana

New Delhi, Apr 18 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today gave away the 'Woman Exemplar' Awards to three outstanding women achievers in the areas of primary education, health and micro finanace.

Sangeeta Pardhe of Pune, Raj Rani of Gurgaon, and Vanita Jalinder Pise of Satara, received the awards, instituted jointly by the Confedration of Indian Industry (CII) and Bharti Enterprises, at the annual conference of the CII inaugurated here by Dr Singh.

The awards, instituted last year, was given Ms Pardhe for providing healthcare to nearly a thousand women, girls and infants, while Ms Rajrani got the honour for addressing around 1000 womens' reproductive health issues. Ms Pise was selected for the award for her innovative efforts in invloving women in the production and sale of paper cups, a project that provides them good income.

''The Award is called 'Exemplar'' because the awardees are true role models who, we believe, will ignite the spirit of community service in all of us, and especailly women,'' said Sunil Mittal of the Bharti Enterprises while introducing the awardees.

On this occasion, the Prime Minister also inaugurated the website 'Art-n-East' that will promote the skills of the north-east states.
