Patna, Apr 18 (UNI) Stating that the Congress' situation in Uttar Pradesh was weak, LJP chief and Union Chemicals, Fertiliser and Steel Minister Ram Vilas Paswan today announced that his party would contest Assembly election in the state on its own.

However, Mr Paswan Congress president Sonia Gandhi was an exception to it and claimed that she would romp home from Rae Bareily Lok Sabha constituency easily.

'' Her popularity does not reflect the Congress' poor condition in Uttar Pradesh, '' he remarked, saying the LJP would contest all 403 seats in UP.

The LJP chief said the Dalits of UP had lost all hopes in the BSP of Ms Mayawati and mass base of the BJP and the Samajwadi Party had also shrunk remarkably. He said the Dalits were left with little option, thus a ray of hope was visible to the LJP.

Mr Paswan said his party had chalked out a six-month programme for consolidating its strengths in Uttar Pradesh. The programme would begin with a ''Dalit Minority Unity Rally'' at Bulandshahar on May 3.
