8573 Taxi/TSR drivers booked for traffic violations till April 15

New Delhi, Apr 18 (UNI) The Delhi Police have this year booked 8573 Taxi/TSR drivers in Delhi till April 15 in connection with various traffic violations like refusal to carry passengers, overcharging, misebhaviour and harrassment of commuters.

While 3812 Taxi/TSR drivers have been prosecuted for overcharging or indulging in misbehaviour with a passenger, 4748 have been booked for refusal to carry passengers and 13 for plying without fare charts or with tampered meters.

To encourage commuters to lodge complaints against taxi or auto rickshaw drivers, the Delhi traffic police have set up a round the clock helpline with the phone number of 23378888. Complaints can also be lodged through free complaint cards distributed by the traffic police.

For this purpose, the police have also set up an SMS based complaint system. All complaints recieved through SMS are downloaded through the internet and legal action is taken against such defaulting taxi/auto drivers.
