25 activists of breakaway Hurriyat detained in JK
Srinagar, Apr 18: About 25 activists of breakaway Hurriyat Conference (HC) were taken into preventive custody by police in north Kashmir today, official sources said.
They said the HC activists led by senior leader Ghulam Nabi Sumbji were stopped by police at Narabal, about 15 km from here and detained there.
A spokesman of the HC said Mr Sumbji and other leaders were on their way to Pattan for anti-election campaign in Pattan assembly segment where bypoll is being held on April 24 alongwith two other constituencies, Sangrama and Rafiabad, in Baramulla district.
Both the factions of the HC and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) and Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party and the Kashmir Bar Associaton have appealed people to stay away from the poll process.
They said that election or selection will not help to move forward on Kashmir issue which could be resolved only by involving the people of the state, including militant leadership in the dialogue process with Pakistan.
The militant organisations have also issued a poll boycott call.
