New Delhi, Apr 17: The Registrar of Newspapers for India (RNI) has appealed to the publishers of newspapers and periodicals to file their mandatory Annual Statements in time to help the government compile data on the growth of media in the country.
The last date of filing of Annual Statements by publishers is May 31.
''The compilation of data on the growth of media would be beneficial to the media in the ultimate analysis,'' an official statement said today.
The Press and Registration Act, 1867 makes it mandatory for the publishers to file their Annual Statements.
''Unless the publishers file their Annual Statements, culling out statistics about the growth of press in India will be a gigantic task, it said, clarifying that the intention of the government was not to penalise for the failure to comply with the requirements.
''Timely and accurate filing of Annual Statements by the publishers of newspapers and periodicals, as required under the provisions in the Press and Registration Act, 1867 is part of the steps to ensure that a true and accurate picture of the growth of Press in India is projected in its right earnest,'' the official note said.
