Mizoram govt halts rehabilitation of Bru refugees
Aizawl, Apr 17 (UNI) The Mizoram government today made it clear that rehabilitation of Bru refugees would be difficult unless the Bru militants stop 'criminal' activities in the state.
An official communique quoted Zoramthanga as saying that while everything has been done to expedite the resettlement of Bru refugees currently lodged in North Tripura, it was not possible to implement the resettlement programme as long as Bru militants were taking up arms against the state.
It also stated that Chief Minister Zoramthanga had informed about his decision to Union Home minister Shivraj Patil while he was in New Delhi last week.
Chief Minister Zoramthanga has also alleged that Bru Liberation Front of Mizoram (BLFM) cadres were using the refugee camps to collect donations and recruit people.
''While this is going on, it is impossible to resettle the refugees. They should stop violence and surrender before we can take up any programme to resettle them'', the communique stated.
