Congress stage dharnas to protest change of Rajiv Ganndhi Patshalas
Jaipur, Apr 17 (UNI) Congress workers today protested and staged dharnas in different parts of the state against the BJP government's decision to change the name of Rajiv Gandhi Patshalas.
Congress spokesman Dr Param Navdeep Singh told UNI that dharnas were staged at various district collectorates to protest against the government's decision to change the name of 16,000 Rajiv Gandhi patshalas (schools) to government primary schools.
They also burnt the copies of the orders given by Education Minister Ghyanshyam Tiwari on this issue. He said the move proves the narrow mindedness of the BJP government.
The Congress workers will also burn the effigy of Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje Scindia in Jaipur later today. Senior Congress leaders, including B D Kalla will be present in the protests.
Meanwhile, BJP state spokesman Kailash Nath Bhatt said the previous Gehlot government did not open any schools in the name of Rajiv Gandhi, hence there is no question of deleting his name.
Mr Bhatt said the schools which were opened the National Literacy Mission have been upgraded to include primary classes, hence these schools would be known as government primary schools.
