Lucknow, Apr 16 (UNI) The Uttar Pradesh government has fixed a target of 201 lakh metric tonne Kharif crop for 2006.
State Agriculture Commissioner Anis Ansari said here today unfavourable weather conditions had resulted in only 140 lakh metric tonne Kharif crop during the last year.
While directives have been issued to all divisional commissioners and district magistrates to work in tandem for achieving the target this year.
He informed that a total of 93.17 lakh hectare land was likely to come under Kharif cultivation during the year and added that divisional and district officials have been asked to work on a war footing to achieve the target of 160 lakh metric tonnes of rice, 19.40 lakh metric tonne of maize, 13.50 lakh tonnes of millet and 2.40 lakh tonnes of oil seeds.
Mr Ansari also said officials needed to work religiously for obtaining per hectare output for each of the Kharif crops -- Rice (27 quintals), Maize (19.40 quintals), Millet (16.27 quintals).
