One arrested in diamond recovery case at airport

Amritsar, Apr 16 (UNI) One person has been arrested for erasion of customs duty after diamonds worth Rs 5.5 crore was recovered by sleuths of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) at the Raja Sansi international airport here yesterday.

Customs officals said today Kishore Nanawali an NRI, was arrested on charges of evasion of customs duty to the tune of Rs 2.5 crore as he did not declare the diamonds which he was carrying in a briefcase.

The other four NRIs, including three women, all related to the arrested man, were all later let off after questioning.

The five NRIs had alighted from an Uzbekistan airline flight from London yesterday and were all detained after DRI officals found the diamonds in the possession of Kishore Nanawali who was today sent to judicial custody after registeration of a case.
