Kolkata, Apr 16 (UNI) The Congress today said the party would prove its political strength in the coming West Bengal Assembly election.
Pradesh Congress working president Pradip Bhattacharjee told newspersons that the party would give a befitting reply to the ruling Left Front's allegation that the Congress was a weak party sans any political base in the state.
'' We will prove our strength in the coming election, '' he added.
He came down heavily on the Front's allegation that the Congress was putting hindrances on the path of the state's development, saying the Front should keep its eyes open and compare the 14-year rule of former Chief Minister Bidhan Chandra Roy with the 29 years of the present rule.
Development took place in all the fields during Dr Roy's regime, and if the ruling government could follow one-tenth work, unemployment could not have crossed the alarming figure, he said adding the present government should learn from the Congress how to uplift the state.
Referring to the Maoist menace, Mr Bhattacharjee said the situation had arisen due to the Front government's '' apathy'' for development of those districts.
