Udupi GH to be upgraded into teaching hospital
Udupi, Karnataka, Apr 15 (UNI) The Karnataka Government has decided to upgrade the district Government Hospital into a teaching hospital on the lines of the Government Medical Hospital, Mangalore.
Informing this to newspersons here today, Medical Education Minister V S Acharya said steps would be taken to set up two blocks for teaching and testing 60 students, including 30 from KMC hospital, Manipal.
He said a separate out-patient department building would soon be constructed at the hospital to treat 300 to 400 patients. The hospital, providing better service in coordination with KMC hospital, was lacking a spacious OPD. Besides, though the present bed strength had been increased to 320 from 200, there was a need for increasing it further, he added.
The Minister said it had also been decided to make arrangements with KMC and other hospitals for providing treatment at concessional rates for the poor and free of cost to those below the poverty line.
