Suspended jail official commits suicide

Hisar, Apr 15 (UNI) Suspended Deputy Superintendent of Rohtak jail Devender Mund committed suicide by consuming a poisonous substance at his residence here today.

Mr Mund, who was earlier posted as Deputy Superintendent at Sirsa jail, was transferred along with Superintendent Yudhisthar Singh to Rohtak jail after serious charges were levelled against both of them by the jail inmates during an inspection visit by a judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. They were later suspended after a departmental inquiry.

Mr Mund, whose body was found at his residence today, left behind a suicide note, saying he was going through a troubled period. He also alleged that the the Jail Superintendent used to trouble him and ordered him to do certain unseemly acts which he recorded on video to blackmail him.

The body of the deceased had been sent to local civil hospital for a post mortem and an investigation in the matter had been ordered, police said.
