Security stepped up in Tiruchirappalli after Delhi blasts

Tiruchirapalli, Apr 15 (UNI) Security measures have been stepped up in this district after the bomb blasts in Jama Masjid in New Delhi last evening.

State Intelligence Service (IS) sources said following an alert issued in the wake of the blasts, security had been tightened in railway stations, important bridges, temples and other places of worship and vital installations in the district as a precaution.

The Goverment Railway Police (GRP) and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) are keeping a strict vigil in railway stations and passenger areas. The GRP men were frisking passengers and visitors in all major railway stations, besides conducting online patrol of railway tracks.

Similarly, vehicle checks in all entry points into the city were intensified. Armed police personnel were posted in front of all important and historic temples. Devotees were thoroughly screened with Door Frame Metal Detectors (DFMD) and hand-held devices before entering temples, the sources added.

Armed police protection was given to the world's tallest temple tower ''The Rajagopuram'' of Sri Ranganathaswamy temple at Srirangam.
