Samajwadi Party MP files petition against Navin Chawla
New Delhi, Apr 15: Samajwadi party MP Chandra Bhushan Singh today filed a petition in the Supreme Court praying for sacking of Navin Chawla as Election Commissioner.
He alleged that the MPs belonging to the Congress have contributed huge amounts from their Local Area Development Funds to the trust being run by Chawla's family members.
The petition also alleges that he was indicted by the Shah Commission which inquired into excesses committed during emergency.
The petitioner further contended that the Election Commission was a Constitutional body entrusted with the task of conducting free and fair elections in the country and the person with Chawala's credentials or antecedents cannot be fit for the job.
