Rs 5.5 crore diamonds seized at airport

Amritsar, Apr 15 (UNI) Sleuths of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) today seized diamonds worth Rs 5.5 crore from five people, including three women, at the Raja Sansi international airport here today.

Airport security officals, while confirming the seizure, said that the diamonds were detected in the basis of the five people who had arrived from an Uzbekistan airlines flight. The flight had come from London.

In all, six people including the three woman have been detained by the DRI and are being questioned. One of the passengers who was detained was identified as Kishore Nanawali.

The sixth person who was detained for questioning was identified as Sumit Kumar, a local jeweleer who had come to receive the five.

Officals said that while three of the five held US passports,the other two possessed UK passports. The seizure was made on a tip off.

DRI officals when contacted refused to give any details but confirmed the seizure and said all the six are being interrogated.
