PM visits Jama Masjid, scene of yesterday's blasts

New Delhi, Apr 15 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today said terrorism was the greatest threat to the security and unity of the country and his government was fully committed to eliminating this menace.

Dr Singh, who visited the historic Jama Masjid where twin blasts had gone off yesterday injuring 14 people, also assured the people that the government would take all necessary steps to protect this place of worship and foil attempts to create a communal divide in the country.

The Prime Minister, who was accompanied by Minister of State for External Affairs E Ahamed during the 10-minute visit, interacted with Shahi Imam Syed Ahmad Bukhari.

Addressing a gathering standing near the water tank where the blasts had taken place, he complimented the people for demonstrating peace and calm at this critical hour. This had really contributed in consolidating communal amity, he added.

The Shahi Imam said the Prime Minister had come on a sad occasion and hoped he would visit the mosque again.

Later, Dr Singh visited the LNJP hospital where the injured are undergoing treatment.
