NCP criticises Cong stand on dance bar order

Mumbai, Apr 15 (UNI) The NCP Maharashtra unit president Arun Gujarathi today criticised the Congress for welcoming the decision of the High Court striking down the ban on dance bars.

Talking to reporters here, Mr Gujarathi said the ban order was a unanimous decision of the state government which includes both the Congress and NCP.

''It is incorrect go back from their earlier support to the decision. If the Congress had a problem, why did its ministers not oppose the move in the cabinet,'' he questioned.

When asked about the proposed liquor policy made in the state budget, Mr Gujarathi said his party was of the view that no decision should be taken which could adversely affect the common man at large.

Mr Gujarathi said MPCC spokesman Sanjay Nirupam should not have commented on the dance bar issue in the media. ''The decision to ban dance bars has been unanimously taken in the cabinet and approved in the legislature.

When the Court gives a decision against the government, how can the spokesman of ruling coalition partner welcome it,'' he asked.
