Naxalite couple killed in encounter
Ambikapur, Chhattisgarh, Apr 15 (UNI) A naxalite couple, active in border areas of Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand, was shot dead in an encounter with police in Ramanujganj area in Chhattisgarh's Sarguja district last night, police said.
Naxalite zonal commander Sagar alias Gupa Korwa, who carried a reward of Rs one lakh declared by the Jharkhand government and Rs 25,000 declared by the Chhattisgarh government, and his wife Kiran were killed when police returned fire after about 40 Maoists attacked a police patrol team in Vijaynagar police station area, about 125 Km from here.
Sarguja Range I G Amarnath Upadhyaya said Sagar, a resident of Kuwati village in Jharkhand's Garhwa district, was active in both states for over ten years. Police recovered a revolver, ammunition and other goods from the encounter site, he added.
