Narendra demands statement from Sonia on Telangana
Hyderabad, April 15 (UNI) TRS leader and Union Minister of State for Rural Development Mr A Narendra today demanded that UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi make a statement on the formation of Telangana at least by May.
Speaking to newspersons here, he said the Congress would have to face the wrath of the Telangana people if a proper statement was not made clearing all doubts.
Mr Narendra also strongly opposed the statement of Defence Minister and chairman of the three-member committee on Telangana that consensus should be arrived at, for taking a decision on the issue.
He said'' the Common Minimum Programme (CMP) of the UPA never mentioned about a consensus. In the history of Indian Parliament never was a consensus arrived at on any given issue, and added every party except the Left, Telugu Desam and Samajwadi supported the formation of Telangana state.
Questioning the statement of Mr Pranab Mukherji that the BJP has to write a letter to the committee offering its support to the formation of Telangana, the TRS leader asked why he was not asking the Congress to give a similar written statement.
He exressed the hope that Telangana state would be a reality after the sub-committee submitted its report in May and added that this was the reason why the public meeting organised for April 27 to press for the Telangana state was postponed.
