Mayawati ridicules CPI(M)

Barasat, Apr 15 (UNI) Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Chief Mayawati today ridiculed the claims of the ruling CPI(M) in West Bengal that the Communist party had been fighting for the poor.

She accused the CPI(M) of bending towards the rich people and the industrialists, adding their politicians ran the party by collecting money from them at the cost of the downtrodden people.

Addressing an election rally at the Cachari ground in North 24-Parganas for the Assembly elections starting April 17, MS Mayawati alleged that the Communists in West Bengal hardly bothered to remove social evils and to improve socio-economic status of the people.

The former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister alleged that the CPI(M) and other national political parties in the country Practised casteism.

Ms Mayawati said people in Bengal, despite their suffering were supporting a political party which never cared for them.

She called upon the supporters to unite on a common platform.

The BSP has fielded 135 candidates in West Bengal Assembly elections.
