Jr doctors withdraw stir; will attend to emergency services
Hyderabad, Apr 15 (UNI) Junior Doctors in Andhra Pradesh called off their ten-day-old strike and decided to attend to emergency services from 1700 hrs today.
The Andhra Pradesh High Court had taken serious note of the strike and warned them yesterday that contempt proceedings would be initiated on April 18 as they went on a strike when a petition was pending before the it.
Junior Doctors Association representative Dr Rajasekhar said they were calling off the strike in the hope that the High Court would attend to their problems.
He said the Association would decide on its future course of action on the basis of the decisions in the All Party meeting called by the state government.
Representatives of the Junior Doctors Association today gave a memorandum to the Governor Mr Rameshwar Thakur on the injustice being meted out to students due to the ''hasty decisions of the government''.
The Andhra Prdesh High Court yesterday directed the state government not to give the medicos their degress if they did not call off their strike. It also questioned the Medical Council why the recognition of the Junior Doctors Association should not be cancelled.
The court had also directed the state government to employ the services of Military and Railway hospitals so that the common man would not suffer due to the strike.
