Jaya, Anbazhagan file nominations
Chennai, Apr 15 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa and DMK General Secretary K Anbazhagan were among those who filed their nominations for the May 8 assembly elections in the state.
Ms Jayalalithaa, seeking re-election from Andipatti constituency, filed her papers at Theni District Collectorate, while Mr Anbazhagan filed his nomination for Harbour constituency in Chennai district.
In a declaration, Mr Anbazhagan disclosed that his movable and immovable assests were worth Rs 1.12 crore.
State Ministers D Jayakumar, B Valarmathi, V Somasundaram and Nainar Nagendran also filed their papers today. While Mr Jayakumar filed nomination for Royapuram constituency, Ms Valarmathi filed papers for Alandur, Mr Somasundaram for Uththiramerur and Mr Nainar Nagendran for Tirunelveli constituency.
BJP leader and sitting MLA H Raja, who is crossing swords with Ms Valarmathi in Alandur, also presented his papers.
Former Union Minister and MDMK leader M Kannappan filed his nomination for Thondamuthur seat in Coimbatore district.
Stage and film comedian and AIADMK nominee S V Sekar filed his papers for Mylapore constituency and declared his movable and immovable property worth Rs 1.75 crore.
AIADMK candidate Mythili Thirunavukkarasu, who won the by-election to Kancheepuram constituency last year, filed her nomination for the same seat.
A report from Tiruchirapalli said five people, including two dummy candidates, filed their nomination papers in the district.
M Paranjothi and N Mariam Pitchai, the AIADMK nominees for Srirangam and Tiruchirapalli-two constituencies respectively, filed their papers. A low-ranked AIADMK candidate C Chinnasamy filed his nomination for the Marungapuri Assembly constituency.
As many as 81 candidates, including former DMK Ministers M Duraimurugan and K Ponmudi, filed their papers on the opening day yesterday.
The last date for filing of nominations is April 20, while scrutiny will be taken up the next day.
