Rs 40 cr for Nageen Lake
Srinagar, Apr 15: The Centre has released Rs 40 crore for carrying out a beautification programme of Nageen Lake in the city to make it more attractive for tourists.
This was disclosed at high level meeting of officers of the Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA) and Urban Environmental Engineering Department (UEED) and a team of central officers led by the Additional Secretary to Environment and Forests, Mr Naresh Dayal.
It was also informed that 1221 affected families of Nageen Lake out of a total 6000 families have been re-habilitated in various colonies in Srinagar.
Naeen Lake needs a sophisticated wet land cutter machine preferably developed by Switzerland.
If the machine is purchased for the purpose it would go a long way in cleaning the Lake which would add to its beautification.
Mr Naresh Dayal exhorted the concerned authorities to speed up the beautification and cleaning of all major water bodies in the State for which Central Government would provide all necessary allocation.
