Barreto nets winner for Mahindra United against JCT
Ludhiana, Apr 15 (UNI) Striker Ramirez Berreto led Mahindra United, Mumbai to a hard fought solitary-goal victory against local outfit JCT, Phagwara in the 10th National Football League (NFL) at the Guru Nanak Stadium here today.
Berreto the Brazilian recruit for Mahindra's scored in the 56th minute of play to seal JCT's fate on their home turf. This victory put the Mumbai outfit with-in a point's reach of leaders East Bengal, Kolkata (24 points).
When play commenced, it seemed that the millmen would ground the visitors to dust, who had returned just four days back after a impressive performance in the AFC Cup at Bahrain. JCT strikers Sunil Chhetri, Rennedy Singh and the ever reliable Brazilian recruit Marcos Pereira were in menacing form as they raided the rival citadel a number of times but the Mahindra defence stood solid like a rock.
After a goalless first half, Mahindra regrouped to raid the JCT's goal and, in the 56th minute; the Ghanian Yusif Yakubu set-up Barreto for the lone goal of the match.Though the millmen tried hard for the equaliser but they were kept at bay by the Mahindra defence.
With this loss, JCT remain at the seventh spot with 13 points from three victories, four draws and five defeats.
