Atwal makes cut at Heritage Classic, Chopra drops out
South Carolina, Apr 15 (UNI) Arjun Atwal made the cut with a one-under 71 but slipped to tied 16th on the leaderboard, while India-born Swede Daniel Chopra dropped out of contention after a level-par second round at the 5.2 million dollar Heritage Classic here.
The Orlando-based Atwal, who had missed the cut in four back-to-back tournaments before this, has a total of five-under 137 after two rounds.
Atwal started well with a birdie on the second hole but dropped a shot on the next. However, he quickly recovered to gain a shot on the fifth.
On his way back, Atwal fired a birdie on the 11th and after some level-par shots had successive bogeys on the 15th and 16th hole. But the former Asian Tour number one made amends soon and ended the day with a birdie on the last hole.
Meanwhile, the nightmare continued for Chopra, who failed to make the cut in his third successive tournament, despite finishing under-par in the second round.
His horrendous first round of three-over, a day before, meant that despite putting up an improved performance, Chopra failed to get through in the 5.2 million dollar event.
He fired two birdies, one in each nine, but finished his day with bogeys on the 17th and 18th holes. Form seems to have deserted Chopra.
At the top, American Jim Furyk overtook compatriot Vaughan Taylor (133), who dropped to tied second, with a four-under 67 taking his total to 11-under 131.
Defending Champion Peter Leonard continued to be at tied 54th spot with a one-under 71 round.
