Anti-Aamir Khan demonstrations continue in Gujarat

Ahmedabad, Apr 15: Venting their ire against filmstar Aamir Khan for supporting Medha Patkar's Namada Bachao Andolan (NBA), BJP and Congress activists today staged separate demonstrations and burnt the posters of his latest movie 'Rang De Basanti'.

A cinema theatre also withdrew the screening of the film, ''in solidarity'' with the agitators.

While the BJP supporters, led by Yuva Morcha leader Amit Shah, burnt the posters and shouted anti-Aamir slogans near City Gold theatre on Ashram road in the heart of the city, Congress carried out its demonstrations in the walled city area, breaking bottles of Coca Cola soft drink, which the star models.

''Aamir must apologise to the people of Gujarat for pledging support to Medha Patkar, who is against the development goals of our state. We will not let screening of any of his movies until he apologises,'' Mr Shah told UNI.

An effigy of the actor will be burnt at a demonstration this evening, he said.

Policemen deployed at the spots kept the agitators under control.
