Animal sacrificed in coastal Orissa despite ban by High Court

Kendrapada, Orissa, Apr 15 (UNI) Notwithstanding the ban by Orissa High Court,animals were sacrificed yesterday at the Sakti cult at Panchubarahi shrine in Satabhaya village under Rajnagar block in the district to appease the Goddess.

Sacrificing of animals as a ritual has been stopped in most of the famous Sakti cults of the state in last couple of years due to the timely intervention of High court and hue and cry by the wildlife activists.

But Kendrapara district in coastal orissa is an exception where the age old rituals of sacrificing the innocent animals still continue with all glory to propitiate Goddess .

The people still believed that the best way to appease the goddess was to sacrifice an animal.Animals were mercilessly sacrificed at Panchubarahi shrine on last Friday on the occasion of Parvana celebrate the Chaitra Purnima.

About 87 goats and sheep were sacrificed before the presiding deity Maa Panchubarahi on the day on the believe that the goddess.

would protect the villages from the fury of nature .

The district administration,local people said were very much aware of the event but they prefer to remain as a mute spectator considering the strong faith of the villagers on the age old tradition.
