21st APFC meet to begin from 17th April in Dehra dun

Dehra Dun, 14 Apr (UNI) The Ministry of Environment and Forest, India and Food and Agriculture Organisation, Rome, will hold the 21st Asia-Pacific Forestry Commission meet from 17th to 21st April at Council of Forest Research and Education (ICFRE),Dehra dun.

Dr Shashi Kumar, Director Forest Research Institute and Udit Kumar Singh, Organising Secretary told reporters that the meeting will be inaugurated by Shri Namo Narain Meena, Minister of State for Environment and Forests, presided over by the Chief Minister of Uttaranchal N D Tiwari.

Around 30 countriesfrom Asia Pacific region and representatives from United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the International Union of Forest Research Organisations(IUFRO), the International Tropical Timber Organisation(ITTO), the Regional Community Forestry Training Centre (RECOFTC) and the Centre for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) will participate.

Russian Federation and Costa-rica will attend the meeting as observer countries.

The meeting will discuss issues like sustainable forestry, financing sustainable forest management, payment for environmental services and role of global, local and regional mechanisms in promoting sustainable forest management.
