Hyderabad, Apr 14 (UNI)The World Health Organisation (WHO) has advised foreign nationals visiting Andhra Pradesh to take precaution to protect themselves from the 'aedes aegypti' mosquito which spreads the 'chikungunya' virus.

According to sources in the Health Ministry, the WHO has asked individuals of foreign origin to protect themselves by wearing clothing that minimised skin exposure and applying insect repellents.

However, no special restrictions have been imposed on travel or trade from the affected regions, including the states of Orissa and Maharashtra.

The virus causes high fever accompanied by intense pain in the joints. Though the fever ebbs in a week with antibiotics, the joint pains are known to linger for a month.
