UP ruling ally RLD undecided over Rae Bareli bypolls
Lucknow, Apr 14 (UNI) Even as the ruling Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh has already announced its candidate's name to fight the Rae Bareli parliamentary bypoll on May 8 next, major ally Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) is yet to decide whether to support SP at the hustings.
''Although we are part of the UP government, it is entirely our prerogative which party to support in Rae the Bareli bypoll, '' RLD president and former union minister Ajit Singh said addressing a news conference here today.
However, he maintained that RLD would not fight the Rae Bareli byelection.
SP has fielded local SP worker Raj Kumar Choudhury -- also the son-in-law of senior party leader and former union minister Beni Prasad Verma -- against Congress chief Sonia Gandhi.
The bypoll was necessitated after Sonia resigned her Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seat following the post of profit controversy.
