Two blasts in Jama Masjid, 12 injured
New Delhi, Apr 14 (UNI) Twelve people were injured, one of them seriously, as two low intensity blasts rocked the historic Jama Masjid at Old Delhi this evening.
The blasts occurred while scores of people were offering Friday evening prayers.
Official sources said while the first blast occurred at 1725 hrs, the second took place 10 minutes later.
Police Commissioner K K Paul said while a majority of those injured had sustained minor wounds, one of them was in a serious condition.
Dr Paul said no crater was formed during the low intensity blasts. The blasts did not cause any damage to the Masjid structure, Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid Syed Ahmed Bukhari said.
The injured were rushed to the Lok Nayak Jayprakash Hospital.
Hospital sources said three of the injured have sustained serious wounds.
Lt Governor B L Joshi and Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit visited the scene of the blasts.
