RLD pledges support to reservation in higher education
Lucknow, Apr 14 (UNI) Welcoming the Centre's proposal of reservation for backward class in private higher educational institutes, Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) president Ajit Singh today pledged his support to the cause.
Addressing a news conference here, Mr Singh said it was a welcome step and RLD would extend full support to realise the proposal.
''To offset possible repercussions of reservation on general category candidates, the seats in the educational institutes can be increased,'' he said.
However, post reservation, he asserted, the quality of education in the institutes should be maintained by means of the cut-off marks.
''Further, the government should also ensure that only the needy among the backwards get the reservation benefit,'' Mr Singh added.
