Reservation was not the solution: Narayana Murthy

Bangalore, Apr 14(UNI) Infosys Technologies Limited founder and Chief Mentor Narayana Murthy today opined that providing reservation to Scheduled Caste and Tribes will not help them in any way. The focus should be in tackling their basic problems.

Mr Murthy responding to queries by scribes about talks of providing more reservation to the oppressed classes in admission into professional colleges and also in jobs. "Instead there is need to empower them (SC/ST) by tackling their problems and making them corporate worthy." Mr Murthy was speaking to newsmen after announcing his company's annual results for 2005-06.

He said that basic problem the country facing was that large number of people belonging to disadvantaged sections have not enrolled into primary and secondary school. "Efforts should be made to motivate them to come to school and make them educated." UNI MV MSP SKB1642
