Patil reviews security situation in capital city
New Delhi, Apr 14 (UNI) Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil tonight denounced the twin blasts in the historic Jama Masjid in Old Delhi and asserted that "nobody will be allowed to take advantage of the situation".
"India will show the world that such incidents cannot disturb the secular fabric of the country," he said.
He congratulated the Shahi Imam of the Mosque for his statement asking the people to remain calm.
Mr Patil reviewed the situation arising out of the twin-blasts in Jama Masjid and appealed to the people not to panic and remain calm.
The assement of the Home Ministry was that the situation was under control and there was no reason to panic, an official spokesman said.
He said there was no need for additional forces to deal with the situation. However, if was required the Home ministry would make available the same, he added.
The spokesman said the security in the capital city had been beefed up in the light of the incident.
Mr Patil reviewed the situation with Home Secretary V K Duggal, Special Secretary (Internal Security) Rajagopal, Joint Secretary (internal security) L C Goyal, Delhi Lt Governor B L Joshi, Police Commissioner K K Paul and officials of IB and Delhi Police.
Mr Patil will visit the blast site and also the hospitals where the injured are being treated.
