Nation pays tribute to Dr Ambedkar

New Delhi, Apr 14: Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat today led the nation in paying homage to Baba Saheb Dr B R Ambedkar on his 115th birth anniversary.

He offerred floral tribute at the statue of Dr Ambedkar at the Parliament House lawns here.

Prominent among others who paid a tribute to the late leader on this occasion were Speaker Somnath Chatterjee, Home Minister Shivraj Patil, Congress President Sonia Gandhi, Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Meira Kumar, Deputy Speaker Charnjit Singh Atwal and several Members of Parliament.

Hundreds of people visited the Parliament House Complex this morning to pay tribute to the leader of the downtrodden.

The function began with a prayer by buddhist monks. The artistes of the song and drama division rendered devotional songs.

The function was organised by the Ambedkar Foundation.
