MP's Mahi Project to be ready by June, 2007

Bhopal, Apr 14 (UNI) The Rs 266-crore Mahi Irrigation Project in Madhya Pradesh will be completed by June next year.

The venture would ensure immediate irrigation benefit to the predominantly tribal districts Dhar and Jhabua. Construction of the main dam on the Mahi, along with a subsidiary dam on a rivulet, were in progress, an official release said.

As per the latest information, the subsidiary was almost completed and 95 per cent work on the right weir finished.

The subsidiary created irrigation potential over 5,000 hectares and about 3,000 ha were irrigated during this year's rabi season.

Roughly 52 per cent construction of the main dam, along with 65 per cent work on the left weir, was over. State Irrigation Minister Anup Mishra recently held project construction-related discussions with senior officials.

Irrigation potential over 18,530 ha would be created in Jhabua through the main dam while the subsidiary would create annual irrigation potential over 7,900 ha in Dhar, the release added.
