Malaysia says no decision on Tenaga tariff request
KUALA LUMPUR, Apr 14: Malaysia has made no decision yet on a rate hike request by national power utility Tenaga Nasional Bhd , Energy Minister Lim Keng Yaik told reporters on Friday.
State-controlled Tenaga, which produces two-thirds of peninsula Malaysia's power needs and has a distribution monopoly, warned on Thursday the much-delayed tariff increase was vital to ensure its financial future.
Tenaga has been lobbying for higher tariffs to help offset rising fuel prices, but the government is reluctant to raise power prices when inflation is running near a 6-1/2-year high.
Tenaga shares were flat at 8.65 ringgit at 0446 GMT.
