Large group of Iraqi police attacked near Baghdad

BAGHDAD, Apr 14: A large group of policemen transporting police vehicles near Baghdad were hit by a roadside bomb and authorities were still trying to determine casualties, Interior Ministry and police sources said today.

The sources said they feared at least 30 policemen were either dead or missing after yesterday's attack.

The sources said the policemen were ambushed by insurgents as they headed towards their headquarters in Najaf in southern Iraq.

A senior Najaf police official, General Abbas Mohammad, said 88 policemen were sent to Baghdad to bring the vehicles back and that at least six were killed, 10 were wounded and 50 missing after the bombing, which was followed by insurgents opening fire on the convoy.
