Killing of man aft arrest alleged

Imphal, Apr 14: The killing of a man by 33 Assam Rifles personnel yesterday at Thoubal district has evoked outcry from the public, who alleged that the man was killed after being arrested.

A public meeting was also held today to discuss the issue.

The man identified as Ningthoujam Ingocha(28) of Nongmaikhong Nongpok Mayai Leikai was allegedly apprehended on Wednesay night and killed in a fake encounter yesterday.

Sources said no arrest memo was given when he was arrested and his family members were reportedly assaulted.

Meanwhile, AR official said the troops resorted to firing in self defence. Sources added that one m-20 pistol, fired case of pistol and six live rounds of AK-47 rifle were recovered from the site.
