I learnt a lot under Sachin, Sourav: Dravid

Indore, Apr 14 (UNI) Team India captain Rahul Dravid said he learnt a lot playing under his predecessors Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly and felt lucky to lead a side, which had prolific players like Virender Sehwag and Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

''I have learnt a lot while playing under the leadership of Sachin (Tendulkar), Anil Kumble, (Javagal) Srinath and (Sourav) Ganguly,'' he said here while responding to queries at a felicitation programme organised by the Sanand Sanstha yesterday.

The skipper said he was glad to have youngsters like Virender Sehwag and Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the team because they fought hard for achieving success.

''I'm lucky to have got good boys who aspire to achieve. Today, Dhoni and Sehwag are at the summit of success,'' he said.

Regarding the change in batting order, the skipper pointed out that playing at different positions improved one's game and required skill.

Away from the ongoing series, Dravid also answered queries on his favourite contemporaries.

When asked about his favourite captain, the Bangalore heartthrob named Australia's Mark Taylor and added that Glenn MacGrath was simply a class apart.

''Shane Warne and Muttiah Muralitharan are great spinners,'' Dravid said while adding that one of the finest moments of his career was vanquishing the Kangaroos on their own territory -- the Adelaide encounter where India beat the Aussies after a gap of 21 years.

Dravid felt Indian cricket had a bright future and the youth could balance studies with the game.

''Players should maintain equilibrium,'' he advised.

The skipper narrated that ''first studies, then cricket'' was the rule at his home. Reminiscing his childhood, Dravid -- who was born in Indore -- recalled the day India won the World Cup.

''We rushed out for an ice-cream treat soon after India's World Cup win.'' UNI XC-AC PM SP1315
