Goa celebrates Dr Ambedkar Jayanti
Panaji, Apr 14 (UNI) Rich tributes were paid to the architect of Indian Constitution Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar on the occasion of his 115th birth anniversary in Goa today.
The minister for social welfare Subbhash Shirodkar speaking on the occasion called upon the youth to take inspiration from the life of Dr Ambedkar and work for the upliftment of downtrodden in the society.
The minister also said Dr Ambedkar dedicated his life for the cause of social reforms in India. ''He played a great role to securing the basic rights for under privileged sections of the society. He impressed upon the them the importance of education. he felt that education was major factor which could raise economic and social status of the people,'' he said.
Prof Keshav Meshram in his key note address said Dr Ambedkar's contribution in the amelioration of the downtrodden alone could give him greatest honour. His contribution in the educational, economical and other fields is also equally remarkable. Dr Ambedkar firmly belived that democracy was the form of government which could bring about revolutionary changes in lives of people.
Besides, Social welfare minister Subahsh Shirodkar, Leader of oppostion Manohar Parrikar, Prof. Keshav Meshram, Secretary social welfare Mr Santosh Vaidya, Foremer deputy speaker Mr Shambu Bhau Bandekar, freedom fighters and social workers garlanded the statue of Dr Ambedkar.
