Five-member team to take part in Asian championship

Chandigarh, Apr 14 (UNI) Five players from Haryana, including four women, would form part of the Indian contingent to take part in Asian Powerlifting Championship to be held in Korea from May 1 to 5.

One of the women lifters Sunita, who hails from Karnal, has been given a cheque for Rs 50,000 by Karnal Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Gupta out of the funds of the District Red Cross Society to help her fly to Korea.

''But for this timely financial assistance, it was not possible for me to join the team for Korea'', said Sunita after receiving the cheque in Karnal today.

She also expressed her gratitude to the Deputy Commissioner for providing her the much needed assistance.

Sunita, a promising lifter would attend a training camp to be held before the tournament at Jamshedpur from April 18 and would leave for Korea on April 29.
