New Delhi, Apr 14 (UNI) Members of the Delhi Fire Service led by the Chief Fire Officer R C Sharma today pinned a flag on Delhi Lt Governor B L Joshi in connection with Fire Service Week.

Lt Gov Joshi contributed Rs 500 towards the welfare of firemen and enquired about the welfare measures initiated by the department for firemen.

He expressed concern over frequent incidents of fire in slums and emphasised on strict enforcement of fire safety measures in high-rise buildings and equipment availability.

The Delhi Fire Service is observing Fire Service Week from April 14 to 20 on the theme 'Follow Fire Precautions, Prevent Fire' to make the public aware about fire safety. During the week demonstrations will be held to educate citizens and school children.

The Fire Service Week was observed to commemorate the memory of 66 gallant officers and men of Bombay Fire Brigade, who laid down their lives while fighting a major fire in Bombay dockyard in 1944.

On this day the officers and men of this community rededicate themselves for protecting life and property of fellow citizens.
