Cyprus President meets Maharashtra Governor
Mumbai, Apr 14 (UNI) Republic of Cyprus President Tasso Papadopoulos was accorded a warm welcome by Maharashtra Governor S M Krishna at the Raj Bhawan.
Mr Papadopoulos's stopover at the country's commercial capital was a part of his State visit to India, wherein he met President A P J Abdul Kalam, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, Congress president Sonia Gandhi and a host of other senior officials in New Delhi.
Mr Krishna yesterday hosted a cultural programme and dinner in the honour of the visiting dignitory.
President Papadopoulos's wife Fotini Papadopoulos, Cyprus Minister of Foreign Affairs George Iacavou, Minister for Commerce, Industry and Tourism Yiorgos Lillikas, High Commissioner of Cyprus to India Andreas Zenonos and other members of the high-level official delegation were present on the occasion, a release issued here said.
Yesterday, Mr Papadopoulos, at a function organised jointly by FICCI, YES Bank and Bombay Stock Exchange, had urged the captains of the Indian industries to promote Cyprus for routing foreign direct investment (FDI) and to derive long-term locational advantage of the island nation.
