Crowd attacks two policemen in a mela

Balurghat, Apr 14 (UNI) Two policemen were seriously injured when an angry mob assaulted them at a Chaitra sankranti mela in this south Dinajpur district headquarters of West Bengal.

The two were admitted to a local hospital.

The cops went there to evict some liquor sellers in the mela ground last night.

Local shop keepers in the mela alleged that the two were harassing the sellers and on retaliation the crowd attacked the two injuring them seriously.

About 20,000 people had come to the mela ground of the 200-year-old fair at Mamudpur under Tapan Block.

Later police arrested three persons in this connection.
