Capital under Section 144

Shillong, Apr 14: Meghalaya's East Khasi Hills district has been brought under Section 144 Cr PC in view of the three-day office picketing called by the Khasi Students Union(KSU) here from April 18.

Capital Shillong falls in the district.

The District Magistrate issued the order yesterday prohibiting picketing, obstruction to movement of people, stopping government employees from attending duties, carrying weapons and assembly of five or more persons.

The KSU had earlier declared a three-day office picketing to protest the appointment of former Chief Secretary P J Bazeley as the Chairman of the Meghalaya State Electricity Board(MeSEB).

The student organisation had accused the government of 'favouritism' in handing over a new post to Mr Bazeley.
